The Cobalt Club

The Shadow fan club.

From the pulps, radio, comicbooks etc.

Mie would have to be:

Death Stalks the Shadow- radio

In the Coils of Leviathan & The Kingdom of the Cobra- comicbooks

The Living Shadow- pulps

I also really like the 1940 movie serial... that's a story in itself

So what are your faves?

I really enjoy issue # 1 # 2 and # 6 of the Dc Shadow of the 1960's (Mike Kaluta) I lost my set in a house fire, but still have fond memories of all the issues. By the way, if anyone has scans from thse issues, I would be grateful for any copies.

Pulp:
Hidden Death (writer: Walter Gibson) Reminds me of a certain Arsene Lupin book.

Graphic novel:
Hell's Heat Wave (writers: Michael Wm Kaluta and Joel Goss)

Radio:
The Ghost Wore a Silver Slipper (writer: ?)

I wasn't aware that HELL'S HEAT WAVE was in trade paperback or graphic novel format?????

I can only find it in single issues...

are you sure, or was it merely a typo?

I think CHARG, MONSTER and GROVE OF DOOM are favorites for me. The RUBY OF KARVAL is my favorite radio show, and the weird one (can't remember) where the villain makes time stop. Also loved the THE SHADOW STRIKES comics, when Shadow faces off with Rasputin.

yeah they put In The Coils of Leviathan in tpb form which was done by same writer & artist... they need to release Hell's Heat Wave as one volume, but they probably won't because Dark Horse is too involved in their other characters.

Greggie: I think you're right--Hell's Heat Wave is only available in the 3 single-issue format. But of course they do together form a 'graphic novel'--maybe that's what Tomi meant.

Although the first Shadow I ever read was the 1963 "Return of The Shadow", I think my favorite was "The Living Shadow", which started the series in 1931. Probably because it started me reading the series. My favorite comic book series remains the 1974 Kaluta DC series.

Single issue is a graphic novel.
Some people like to call them "comic books" but Hell's Heat Wave is not comical at all.

For the radio, I liked RUBY OF KARVAL a lot. There was the episode where the guy stops time-anyone remember what that's called? For movies, I think the SHADOW serial is excellent.

that episode is on utube.

There's the 1/1/39 radio episode, "The Man Who Murdered Time" (by: ?) where a guy who's dying and has lost his marbles invents a time machine that stops time and makes it repeat over and over, in order to kill another guy over and over. (Similar to the 'Groundhog Day' idea.) If this isn't the one, I'd check out the Alfred Bester-written episodes--it sounds like it could be one of his plot-lines.
