The Cobalt Club

The Shadow fan club.

Howdy Everyone!
When I got started reading the old Pulps, I found several things that I had to look up... a transom is the window over doors in older buildings, usually the old Govt buildings have them (like in the court house)... an excellent way to have some air flow and still maintain your privacy before air conditioning! I found them in a Shadow book, when The Shadow popped out of one when the bad guys had him cornered and trapped.
I wondered why the cabbie didn't notice until someone slammed the back door of his cab when entering (wouldn't the dome light come on?) Surprise... no dome lights back then!
And no turn signals/brake lights either... they had a brake LIGHT (singular) this is where the hand signals for right turn, left turn, and stop came from.
60 mph was a huge stretch back then for a regular car, especially with inner tube tires... you just never knew when one of those babies would blow out on you, even more so during the war years, because of rationing and drives.
There is another place for some of the old pulp stories if you are interested: http://pulpgen.com/pulp/downloads/index.html The Dan Turner ones are most excellent by Robert Leslie Bellem.
Happy reading to you all! Best, Ken
